The Japan Tourism Agency selected Kushiro (Hokkaido), Kanazawa (Ishikawa) and Nagasaki (homonymous province)as model cities to attract foreign tourists.
The agency reported on Friday (29) that will ask the ministries and agencies to put priority on the three cities when establishing measures related to tourism.
Intensive efforts will be made to improve the infrastructure of the urban environment.
According to the agency, organizations formed by hotels, hostels, transport operators and other companies will be established to promote cities.
Activities to please foreigners, such as lessons to learn how to wear kimonos and menus using local specialties will also be established.
A record 19.74 million foreign tourists visited Japan in 2015.
