Korakuen Garden

Korakuen Garden was built in 1700 by Ikeda Tsunamasa , a feudal lord of Okayama . The garden was designed in the style Kaiyu ( " scenic drive ") that presents the visitor with a new view every step on the road that connects the lawns , lakes, hills , tea houses and streams.

The Korakuen Garden maintains its original appearance to the present day , except for a few changes made by other daimyo . The Korakuen is one of the few Japanese gardens, where historical changes can be observed thanks to the various paintings of the Edo period and Ikeda family records .

The garden was used as a place to entertain important visitors as well as a spa for daimyo , although common people could visit them in a few days. In 1952 , the Korakuen was named a "Local Special Scenic " under the Protection Law for Cultural Properties
